Sherrer & Burtnett LLC: a client-focused law firm built for the 21st Century.
With respect to litigation, our firm serves both individual and corporate clients in a new and modern way that reflects today's ever-changing legal world. In no area of this practice is this more important than in the area of litigation, where the stakes are high. We are a client-centered law firm where the best interests of the client are the first priority. By offering clients options such as alternative fee arrangements, flat fee billing, and other new and bold attorney-client arrangements, we are attempting to move beyond the old ideas of what it means to be a law firm.
Our seasoned litigators know how to negotiate and resolve cases short of a trial, whenever possible; but if settlement is not an option, we aggressively pursue or defend cases to their conclusion. This includes handling all phases of a jury trial, arbitration, or mediation. When timing is crucial, we are also prepared to engage in emergency litigation, including pursuit of temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions.
Our attorneys enforce and defend our clients’ rights in both State and Federal Court, from matters involving a simple breach of contract or negligence issues to more cutting-edge issues of intellectual property law, such as social media, cyber torts, and computer fraud. Alternative Dispute Forums and Administrative Hearingsopen
While our attorneys do often represent clients in court, our attorneys are equally comfortable either prosecuting for or defending our clients in both alternative dispute forums and administrative hearings. With respect to alternative dispute forums, our attorneys are familiar with and have protected our client’s rights in various arbitration forums, be they required or by agreement. Our attorneys also sometimes use alternative dispute resolution procedures, such as mediation to drastically reduce the cost of litigation and to successfully settle matters. With respect to administrative hearings, our attorneys have successfully represented clients in City of Chicago and State of Illinois Administrative Hearings, including with respect to Overweight Truck Violations, Insurance Compliance Matters and Commercial Driver’s License Issues. Also, our attorneys have extensive experience litigating and pursuing settlement in front of the Illinois Human Rights Comission (IDHR) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
E-Discovery and Information Management in Litigationopen
The prevalence of electronic data has led to new emphases both on the discovery of electronic information in litigation and on efforts to take control of data: managing where it can be stored, establishing enforceable IT policies, and controlling the implementation of new technologies. While eDiscovery issues are not raised in the same measure in every case, control of data is the key to successfully managing such issues when they do arise. These can become the central issues of litigation and a main source of the cost and burden of litigation. Our attorneys have experience in these complex matters and how to deal with them efficiently and effectively.
